Gobind Sadan and Shiv Sadan Celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr
Eid-ul-Fitr, the end of the holy month of Ramadan, was celebrated by many Sikhs and Hindus as well as Muslims at Nur-e-ilahi Mosque in Gobind Sadan and also at Pir Sahib’s Dargah in Shiv Sadan. The Shiv Sadan celebration was organized on 14 June by Shiv Sadan sevadars. They put up beautiful light decorations around the dome of Pir Sahib’s dargah and the private room made for Baba Virsa Singh next to the dargah in the place where he used to give darshan in a simple thatched pavilion. For the special occasion, they put Babaji’s photo and Shaikh Farid’s photos side by side in chairs inside the dargah. Hundreds of people from the area came to participate.
At Gobind Sadan, Eid was celebrated on 16 June in Gobind Sadan’s own mosque. During the month of Ramadan, the Holy Qur’an had been read out every evening in the mosque, with two recitations of the entire scripture completed, and many people in the congregation observed full fasting, going without food or water from sunrise to sunset. On the morning of June 16, Hindus and Sikhs joined their Muslim brothers in saying Namaz, hugging each other after the prayers, and offering sweet semian. For some of the Sikhs, it was the first time they had ever entered a mosque, and they found it a very memorable spiritual and interfaith experience.
