BABA VIRSA SINGH JI’S BIRTHDAY 2026
Many sangat members old and new came to Gobind Sadan ready to do a lot of seva, but also to enjoy Maharaj ji’s birthday celebration from 20 to 22 February.
The celebration started at 2 a.m. on Friday, 20 February, with 7 Akhand Paaths which continued until 2 a.m. on Sunday, 22 February. Friday was also the occasion of a celebration of Maharaj ji’s birthday at the free school being run in his name at Gobind Sadan, Baba Virsa Singh Ji Maharaj Public School. Students presented dances from a variety of Indian traditions. In the evening, the sangat gathered in Maharaj ji’s garden for an informal joyous programme of cake-cutting, fireworks, and singing of Maharaj ji’s old songs.
On Saturday, February 21, many people who were not doing seva elsewhere took the opportunity to sit quietly in the main havan in the dera, reading Jaap Sahib. A special havan was conducted in honour of Maharaj ji’s birthday on Saturday evening at Angeetha Sahib, followed by sharing of a very large birthday cake and coffee by young men from the sangat.
After the Akhand Paath bhog ceremony on Sunday morning, a programme of kirtan and discourses was held in the Diwan Hall behind the langar. The sangat especially enjoyed hearing Joginder Kaur from Gobind Sadan USA, Bhagat Ji from Shiv Sadan, and Jagjit Singh from Batala singing Maharaj ji’s old shabads. Ralph Singh greeted the sangat via a call from the United States, saying, “The main thing is to feel Babaji’s presence within us and spread his light and love wherever we go.” Boha/Budhlada sangat managed the langar and bought a lot of large pots for cooking and distributing great amounts of food to everyone.
