Gobind Sadan is always a special place. But this year, more so than in recent memory, Babaji's birthday celebration made it feel like the ocean of peace it is known for. Simply walking through the gates we were enveloped by waves of love—His Divine presence unmistakenly welcoming everyone home.

Baisakhi at Gobind Sadan Print E-mail
Sunday, 05 June 2011 13:19

To a Sikh, Baisakhi, can be New Year’s, Christmas, and Easter, rolled into one. It is the birth of Khalsa (“The Order of the Pure”); a rebirth of souls baptized with holy water consecrated by prayer, and sweetened with sugar wafers; and while it occurs coincidental with the traditional harvest festival, it is celebrated by Sikhs all over the world as the day Guru Gobind Singh ji, our 10th Guru, created the order which would distinguish Sikhs eternally. It was on this day that the 5 articles of faith, uncut hair (kes), a comb (kanga), a kirpan (often referred to today as a ceremonial sword), khara (steel bracelet), and underwear (kach) and even our names, Singh (lion or enlightened one) and Kaur (princess), were bestowed by our Guru to break the bonds of the material world and link us in perpetually service to God.

Gobind Sadan's Beloved Major Sahib Passes Away Print E-mail
Thursday, 09 December 2010 20:27

After his lifelong dedication to God, study of Dharma, and constant devotion to Babaji and Gobind Sadan, Bhai Kirpal Singh ji, known to all as Major Sahib, Gobind Sadan’s Head Granthi, the Institute’s Chief Research Scholar, and one of Gobind Sadan’s original residents, has left us. Those of us who knew him were fortunate indeed. His “Thank you, thank you,” for even the slightest help we could offer, will always echo in our hearts, and his Nam, Jaap Sahib, and evening talks will resound throughout the compound. It is hard to say, but I sense that the Darbar Sahib room, his library, and the havan, will miss their constant companion. It was after all, Major Sahib who named this sacred site, Gobind Sadan. We invite those who choose, to send their tributes to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it for posting on the Gobind Sadan website. Our love and prayers are with his family at this time. As a lasting tribute, his recordings will remain with us on the Bhai Kirpal Singh page of the Institute section.

Interviews with Major Kirpal Singh, Gobind Sadan's Chief Research Scholar and Head Granthi Print E-mail

Whenever Baba ji would hold audiences, the first thing he would say is: "Call Major Sahib." The love between Baba ji and Major Sahib was wonderful to see and their dialogues were priceless. Each night, according to Baba ji's instructions, Major Sahib would provide a daily lecture for the sangat following the evening prayers. Through the efforts of Capt. Brahmjit Grewal, we are happy to share many of Major Sahib's lectures, on spirituality, religious history, Maharaj ji's history and Major Sahib's story in his own words.
