Scholars in Residence

Babaji has long supported the work of many notable scholars.

Bhai Nahar Singh and Bhai Kirpal Singh are recognized as among India's preeminent research scholars. Many American scholars of Indian history have trained under their tutelage. Together they compiled and published much of the original Indian National Archives Documents related to the Indian Independence Movement, under the heading of "Struggle for Free Hindustan." These volumes are housed in some of the world’s most famous academic libraries.

Although Bhai Nahar Singh passed away in 1998 at the age of 93, Bhai Kirpal Singh, at 80, still manages the day-to-day activities of the Institute. Outside of his commitment to a spiritual life—he rises for his morning bath and prayers at 1:30 A.M.—one can find him in the newly renovated library from dawn to dusk. Besides his excellent English, he is one of the few living scholars fluent in all languages of both the Dasam Granth and Guru Granth Sahib. Additionally, he has the distinct ability to lecture almost continuously on the history and philosophy of any of the world’s religions.
